Don’t forget about Bike to Work Day tomorrow! Since biking is the cleanest and healthiest way to get to work the Washington Area Bicyclists Association and Commuter Connections invite you to join them and bike to work tomorrow May 19th. There will be free t-shirts, refreshments, music and so much more at the various pit stops throughout the city. Make sure to register and bike to work tomorrow!
The temps are rising and we’re getting closer and closer to our favorite hot DC hot summers! Now is the time to update your home to make it more fresh and bright to go along with the summer sunshine. Here are some of our favorite trends for home design for the summer!
Bright Whites
White is clean crisp and refreshing and keeps your home cool and zen for when you come back after a long day in the sunshine. Add a few white pillows or maybe even paint a wall crisp white to freshen up your space.
Outdoor Furniture
Time to get out in the sunshine and relax! Make sure you pay attention to your lawn furniture purchases to make sure you’re getting the most relaxing and comfortable furniture for your day in the sun!
Fill Your Fireplace
The summer heat means your fireplace will not be getting used therefore you should fill it with something else to spruce up your space! We recommend throwing a few candles bright colored candles or maybe something nautical like jars of sea glass in your fireplace.
Fresh and Clean
Throwing a fresh coat of paint on older furniture is a perfect way to brighten up your home for the summer time!

With waterfront views, fresh seafood and tons of new developments the neighborhood of Southwest Waterfront is becoming the new hot place to live in Washington, DC. Although SW is the smallest quadrant in DC it’s becoming more and more an attractive place to live because of it’s great location, easy metro access and increasing retail stores along with luxury apartment buildings.
Waterfront is becoming a very attractive spot for families to reside because of the vast green spaces planned into the new developments. The waterfront boasts many parks and other spaces for picnics, soccer games, bocce matches and other family friendly activities.
Catina Marina is one of the locals favorite spots in Southwest. Catina Marina is an escape into another world. You’ll feel as though you’ve been whisked away to Mexico while at this dock inspired restaurant. The added bonus of the great waterfront views are delicious foods and delightful homemade margaritas.
M Street Yoga’s tagline “A Close Knit Community Studio with a Big Heart” shows how neighborhood and community is so important to this neighborhood of the district. Their classes are both enjoyable and challenging and is a huge part of the lifestyle of Southwest residents
The Fish Market is home to the oldest operating open-air fish market in the United States. A DC Landmark the Fish Market is something unique that makes SW stand out against other DC neighborhoods. Head over here for fresh raw seafood to cook up at home or grab some cooked seafood for lunch or a picnic by the Jefferson Memorial or on the docks.

Have you been to Bluejacket brewery yet. One of the newest DC staples in the Navy Yard the Bluejacket has become both a neighborhood favorite and a locals destination for a night out. Enjoy an extensive draft list created in house at the brewery inside the restaurant and their delicious food pairings. Head over to Bluejacket on a Friday night and be a part of their weekly tasting tour Upon arrival, guests will be treated to one of Bluejacket’s signature drafts, followed by a full tour of the brewery and operations with 3 tasters throughout the tour. At the end of the tour you will be invited into the Bottle Shop & Tasting Room and enjoy a flight of 3 tasters paired with the perfect snack. This tour will be an experience like no other and is a great activity for a fun night out with friends!

Your dreams just became a reality with the DC Bike Ride happening Sunday, May 14th from 8AM-1PM. Enjoy the sights DC has to offer and enjoy a day perfect for the whole family to take part in! Proceeds from the day go to the Washington Area Bicyclists Association to make the roads safer for all bicycle lovers in the city!

Truckeroo has become a staple of a locals DC summer! The music, food trucks and lawn games attract swarms of people coming for an after work drink with friends. One of our favorite DC food truck is Captain Cookie in the Milkman. The warm delicious cookies and ice cream are a perfect way to start off your summer weekend the right way! Our other ice cream favorite is Goodies Frozen Custard & Treats! And if the lines are too long at Truckeroo don’t worry Ice Cream Jubilee is just a 5 minute walk away. Another great thing about Truckeroo is the live music! Head on over to The Bullpen this Friday for the summer seasons very first Truckeroo!
If you want to prepare for Cinco De Mayo celebrations happening next Friday a little early get your tickets to the annual DC Margarita March! This Sunday and Saturday enjoy the greatest margarita celebration in the world right here in the district. NoMa is a neighborhood where developments are popping up all over the place! This flood of new people and condos are bringing rise to new restaurants, new gyms, new offices, new parks… new everything! It’s so exciting to see this neighborhood get a transformation. Here are some of our favorite things about the NoMa neighborhood
Union Market is a new DC landmark. With its artsy letters and hand painted walls it has become every Instagram queens favorite new spot. It’s also a great spot to grab lunch with the kids as their outdoor picnic tables fake turf and live music provided by Suburbia create a perfect Saturday noon hangout atmosphere.
Wunder Garten is one of NoMa’s newest Pop-Ups and is known for it’s traditional German and regional craft beers, outdoor educational programs from REI, and a relaxed environment.
Yoga NoMa is a new favorite to residents of the area with affordable classes 7 days a week it’s the perfect place for NoMa locals to relax and unwind.
Since the neighborhood is right on the Metropolitan Branch Trail and right on the red line it is the perfect place for commuters into the city to reside. It has the perfect mix of city life and neighborhood charm.
Celebrate National Park Week this weekend with a hike through one of the beautiful National Parks surrounding The District! This week long celebration means national parks offer free admission throughout the weekend at all parks including Great Falls National Park, Shenandoah National Park and Prince William Forest Park in Virginia, and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in Maryland. Free admission ends this Sunday the 23rd so take advantage of it while you can!
It’s shaping up to be a beautiful week in The District! Spring is here and the weather just keeps getting nicer. When the sun comes out our favorite neighborhood haunts are the fabulous beer gardens we have here in DC. Fun, casual and usually outdoors a beer garden is the perfect place to grab drinks with a friend after work. Drinking beer is even more fun when it comes in a boot!
One of our favorites is Dacha Beer Garden. Their Happy Hour runs for 4-7 Monday thru Thursday and serves up their beers in boots! Located in the beautiful neighborhood of Shaw it is the perfect place to relax outside. Check out their food menu for some delicious German classics like Bratwurst.
Takoda Restaurant & Beer Garden offers the perfect place to drink outdoors all year round with their removable windows and canopy system. Their horseshoe shaped bar on the roof deck is something you shouldn’t miss.
Garden District has the perfect mix of BBQ and German beers in DC. Head over there for a great outdoor dining experience on 14th St.
Looking for a place to watch a game? Biergarten Haus is your go to with a great happy hour special on beers and over 20 TV’s it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a game outside.
Wunder Garten has a casual friendly backyard environment with it’s picnic tables and lawn games. Located in NOMA it is a great place to relax and enjoy a beer after work!
The Easter Bunny is hopping on down the bunny trail! He’s curated the perfect Easter basket for each of the people in your life. Obviously a basket filled with candy and gift cards is a great way to celebrate Easter but if the Easter Bunny wants to step it up a notch for the adults he might add some of these gift ideas. Have you heard about the Washington Improv Theater? WIT is hosting their annual elimination tournament, commonly known as “FIST”, The Fighting Improv Smackdown Tournament. Improv teams of up to four members perform, and the audience votes who moves on to the next round. top Also, each match includes a headlining performance from improv veterans to really get you laughing. This event is a favorite in the DC improv scene. Whether you’re an avid fan or a someone who has never seen an improv show before FIST is sure to end you week on a high note. Head over to The Source this Friday the 14th for one of the two shows 7:30 PM or 9:30 PM and make sure to get your tickets soon!
Thursday’s in The District can only mean one thing... the perfect day to organize a Happy Hour with friends! Thursday night has some of the best happy hour specials in DC. Let us tell you about some of our favorites.
Free tacos are served with the purchase of one drink at The Front Page in Dupont! Their weekly happy hour includes $4 House Wine, $3 Rail Drinks, $5 Margaritas and a $5 Food Menu but on Thursdays $2 Corona, Corona Light, Modelo and Miller Lite are served from 5pm-Close and there’s a FREE Taco Bar starting at 6!
Trying to escape to island time? Head right to Archipelago this Thursday to enjoy $7 pina coladas, $8 Ti punch, $4 sliders, $5 shrimp toast and a $16 “Pineapple of Hospitality” drinks designed for sharing.
Commissary is a great neighborhood spot for happy hour. Drink options include $6 cocktails, $5 rail drinks, $2 beers and a ton of wine options. Our favorite part is they serve breakfast all day! Pancakes at happy hour anyone?
Looking for one of the cheapest Happy Hour options in the district. El Chucho Cocina Superior has you covered with their $5 delicious margaritas and perfectly priced Mexican food. Try the elote callejero you will not be disappointed.
One of the most upscale sushi spots in the district Sushi Taro offers Happy Hour to make their food and drinks a little more accessible. Happy Hour is only at the bar though so make sure to get there quick!
Union Market has become one of the new favorite spots for DC residents to hang out. Delicious food, craft cocktails, great instagrammable setting and open air seating… what’s not to love? If you haven’t been to Union Market yet let us give you some tips on the best spots to visit. It’s good to go in with a plan as the huge warehouse gets a little overwhelming on a crowded Saturday morning!
Buffalo and Bergen always has a line but it’s because their breakfast sandwiches are just too good and their Bloody Marys are to die for!
Suburbia is our favorite for fun outdoor cocktails. The truck sells frozen cocktails and has a dj under a tiki bar playing the best tunes. Perfect for a Sunday Funday!
Looking for the healthiest option? South Block serves up fresh and delicious acai bowls along with smoothies and juices. We recommend heading here as a recharge after a long bike ride through the city.
If seafood is what you’re craving try Rappahannock Oyster is the place to go. It was even recognized by the Wall Street Journal as one of the best oyster bars in America. Head over here for a more upscale dining experience.
The sweetest spot in Union Market is tie between Trickling Springs Creamery and the Saison Wafel Bar. Both are delicious so you might have to grab an ice cream and a waffel to decide which spot is best on your own!

We love to ride bikes around the Jefferson memorial in the Springtime. Grab two bikes from Capital Bikeshare and head out to explore The District. Extra date points if you pack a picnic and a frisbee to enjoy the day even more!

DC has become home of the cupcake. Our personal favorite at DHM is Baked & Wired in Georgetown. Grab two delicious cake cups and head on down to the Georgetown Waterfront for a truly romantic casual date.
