Congratulations! Whether it’s a condo in Dupont Circle or a Colonial in Chevy Chase, moving into a new home in DC is an exciting time. Once the boxes are (mostly) unpacked, it’s time to get out an explore your new neighborhood. If you’re in the DC area, there are bound to be dozens of activities and charming spots to check out, so it’s easy to be overwhelmed. Here are a few tips for diving into your new ‘hood!
Keep a Lookout
It’s easy to be glued to your phone when power-walking to Metro, but this is the time to observe and learn. Keep your eyes peeled for concert flyers, pop up shops, local comedy shows, and more. Looks like you’ve got a busy weekend planned with zero effort!
Web Wisdom
As always, the internet is making our lives a little easier. Check out websites, blogs, and social media accounts dedicated to keeping tabs on the DC scene. Classics like Thrillist or Washingtonian are great starting place, and dive into Instagram with searches for hashtags like #dcnightlife, #dcmusic, and #dceats.
Birds of a Feather
Found your *perfect* coffee shop for Saturday morning cold brew? Odds are other regulars will have the same taste as you in local spots. Pick their brains for inspiration on what bar to check out if you like the same book store, and what boutique to hit if you love the same music venue.
Go With Your Gut
When all else fails, don’t be afraid to just go in! If you’re passing by a place that looks right up your alley, don’t waste time trying to plan a specific outing (then forgetting and rescheduling said plan). Take the time to stop, check it out, and text whoever needs to come back with you for next time!
